![]() Conference Organising Committee The conference organising committee, responsible to the Board of Directors of the Trading Company for the Conference is led by Dr Hilary Pinnock and includes:- Hilary Pinnock (Chair), UKHilary Pinnock is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow with the Allergy and Respiratory Research Group, University of Edinburgh, and a GP in Whitstable, Kent. Her research interests include the delivery of care within the ‘real-life’ primary care setting including telephone reviews for asthma, and telehealth for monitoring respiratory disease, the palliative care needs of people with COPD and the role of GPs with a Special Interest. She is actively involved with the Primary Care Respiratory Society UK and the International Primary Care Respiratory Group. She chairs the self-management evidence review group of the BTS SIGN asthma guideline, and is contributing to the COPD National Strategy. Amanda Barnard, AustraliaAmanda Barnard is Associate Dean of the School of General Practice, Rural and Indigenous Health at the Australian National University Medical School, and Foundation Head of the Rural Clinical School since its inception in 2006. Amanda has been a member of the GPs in Asthma Group of the National Asthma Council since its inception, and involved in development and implementation of many educational programs for GPs and nursing and allied health professionals. She is currently chair of the Guidelines Committee for the Australian 2012 Asthma Management Handbook. Amanda also works as a GP in Braidwood, a small town in NSW, and is Chair of the Wonca Working Party on Women and Family Medicine. Jacqui Cooper, UKJacqui qualified as an SRN in 1980, at the QMC Nottingham. Following a few years at a community hospital she went on to work in General Practice for more than 15yrs as a Specialist Nurse Practitioner, the majority of those years at Ruddington Medical Centre, Nottingham. In 2009 she successfully completed an Msc in Respiratory care. Using that experience Jacqui changed roles and now manages a Cardiorespiratory Team, covering 16 practices within Principia, Nottingham. Jacqui has also been a trainer for Education for Health (15yrs), training students in Asthma, COPD and Spirometry. She also is an active member of the PCRS-UK and is currently on the Executive amongst other committees. Jaime Correia de Sousa, Portugal Dr Corresia de Sousa graduated in 1978. He has been a family physician since 1983 and works in a busy group practice in Matosinhos, Portugal. He is Head of the Department of Community Health and a teacher at the School of Health Sciences in the University of Minho, Portugal. He was • Director of the Northern Institute of General Practice of Northern Portugal (aimed at GP Vocational Training and CME), 1994-99 and Chief-Editor of the Portuguese Journal of Family Practice 2005-07. He was also a Member of the National Board of APMCG (Portuguese Association of General Practitioners) 1987-1992. Jaime is a Member of the Research Sub-Committee of the International Primary Care Respiratory Group Rupert Jones, UKDr Rupert Jones is a GP in Plymouth and Clinical Research Fellow at the Peninsula Medical School, Plymouth where he leads the Respiratory Research Unit. He is a GP with special interest in Plymouth PCT. His research interests include psychological factors in COPD, pulmonary rehabilitation, patient education and self-management and he is the research lead for the Primary Care Respiratory Society UK. Rupert is chair of the abstract committee for the 6th Word Conference of the IPCRG Catalina Panaitescu, RomaniaAfter completion of her basic medical education at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” in Bucharest, Romania, Dr. Panaitescu started her vocational training to become a family physician. She works in a practice group that she and five other colleagues founded in 1998: St. Mina Medical Civil Society, which is now responsible for more than 10 000 patients. She has a long standing interest in respiratory medicine, especially in smoking related pathology and became associate member of the IPCRG in 2005. Her current research initiatives concentrate on evaluation and quality improvement of the smoking cessation assistance at primary health care level. Iain Small, UKIain is a general practitioner in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. He is clinical lead for Grampian Respiratory MCN, a trainer for Education for Health and an honorary lecturer at the Department of General Practice, University of Aberdeen. Iain has been Chair of the PCRS-UK Executive for three years and is now entering his second term of office in this role. One of his key interests is in the delivery of high quality respiratory care and he is the PCRS-UK Lead on the new PCRS-UK Respiratory Quality Practice Award which is currently in development Siân Williams, UKSiân Williams has been the Executive Officer of the IPCRG since its foundation in 2001. She started her health service life as a management trainee in the English NHS. After a decade of management during which time she gained an MSc in public health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, she joined a medical education company. She continues to work on respiratory programmes in the UK, with the UK group, PCRS-UK. and the NHS. She is interested in knowledge management, and the power of patient and professional narratives combined with data analysis to influence change in complex systems such as health and social care. |
