For information Respiratory Medicine: Dark Clouds or Blue Skies! Organised by Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh Venue: The Queen Mother Conference Centre, Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh 9 Queen Street Edinburgh EH2 1JQ Respiratory diseases continue to assume centre stage in the world health agenda. Pandemic flu, drug resistant TB and emerging nosocomial infections frequently make front page news whilst the continuing impact of conditions such as asthma, COPD and bronchiectasis impact on patients’ quality of life and the economy of developed and developing nations alike. Such exigencies emphasise the need to develop new methods of assessing the anatomical and functional consequences of disease, to dissect the underlying mechanisms and develop new treatment strategies. It is important to ask, should we train more or fewer respiratory specialists?
