One stop information on swine flu for Health Professionals in the United Kingdom

Swine flu (H1N1) was deemed to have reached pandemic status internationally in June 2009. A national pandemic flu service has now been launched for England. There is now a need to ensure that, where appropriate, increasing numbers of people in England can access antivirals quickly. There is not yet a necessity for such a service in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. However, management of flu across the UK has moved from confirmation by laboratory diagnosis to confirmation by clinical diagnosis, by telephone in many instances.

This Primary Care Respiratory Society UK website resource is intended as a guide to the information currently available to United Kingdom health professionals on swine flu and to provide in one place links to the available information, seen by the Primary Care Respiratory Society UK as most relevant to primary care.

Information on the specific considerations for people with respiratory conditions is included as are links to the resources specific to Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England. The information is intended for general use and to be of an advisory nature only. It should not be regarded as applicable to a specific case. It is current as at – 11 August 2009.
