Healthcare PolicyWhy does Primary Care Respiratory Society UK get involved in policy? One of the key strands of Primary Care Respiratory Society UK’s work is to engage with the NHS at a policy level, and play an active role in the development of policy where it has a bearing on the management of respiratory disease. We recognise that having the right policy in place can impact the practical delivery of care significantly, and believe that we can contribute positively by shaping such policy when it is in development. We believe that we have a unique contribution in putting forward a respiratory and primary care perspective. What is the purpose of this section of the website? The reason we have developed policy pages for the website is to provide Primary Care Respiratory Society UK members with a quick and simple reference point on policy issues – a one-stop-shop, if you like. It is designed both to keep members informed about what Primary Care Respiratory Society UK’s activities are in the policy arena, and to provide them with information that may help them to influence their local policy environment to be more favourable towards respiratory disease. We aim to highlight key documents when they are available, and to provide tips on who to talk to, in order to make things happen at a local level We therefore have 2 main objectives for our work on healthcare policy for 2008. - Influencing the development of national policy - Supporting the implementation of policy locally The Primary Care Respiratory Society UK policy section of the website is available only to full members of the charity and includes comprehesive details on the policy activities of the Primary Care Respiratory Society UK and resources available to members.
