Asthma Guideline Resources

The PCRS-UK offers members a range of materials to help in the management of  patients with asthma, based on the British Guideline for the Management of Asthma was published by the British Thoracic Society (BTS)/ and Scottish intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) in May 2008 and last updated in May 2011.

Resources for members include the following:-

Quick Guide - Routine Management of Asthma in Primary Care
An online user-friendly ‘aide memoir’ based on the new revised 2008 British Guideline on the Management of Asthma (revised May 2011) and NICE guidance on the use of inhaled steroids in the management of asthma.  The guide summarises the ‘must do’s’ for busy GPs and practice nurses and is intended for primary care health professionals to refer to in the course of a consultation. Downloadable slides of the ‘Quick Guide’ are also available for practices and PCOs to adapt for their own local use.

Quick Guide - Test your Knowledge
This quick 10-question knowledge test has been designed to help you review your knowledge of the primary care related management aspects of thd guideline and identify any learning needs.  This short test can be undertaken in just a few short minutes and once you have completed it you can immediately view the correct answers and compare them against your own.

A summary guideline produced specifically for healthcare professionals working in primary care on the routine management of asthma.  This quick guide can be downloaded and printed and made available for the whole practice team.  The guide summarises the key aspects of the diagnosis and management of asthma in primary care. 



Primary Care Respiratory Society UK Equivalent Doses of Inhaled Corticosteroids Reference Table
A simple reference table providing details of equivalent doses of all commonly prescribed inhaled cortiocsteroids.  For prescribing information please refer to the individual product’s Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC).
