Irene Valero-Sanchez

Dr Irene Valero-Sanchez trained as a chest physician in Valencia (Spain) and moved to the United Kingdom in 2013. After completing a clinical fellowship in sleep medicine and home ventilation in Glenfield Hospital (Leicester), she was offered the first fellowship in integrated respiratory care by Health Education East Midlands in 2015. in October 2018 she took up her current substantive post as a Consultant Physician in Integrated Respiratory Care in Glenfield Hospital, and is the clinical lead for the Integrated Respiratory Service, working across hospital and community settings as well as with the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland clinical commissioning groups. Since 2019 she has clinically led the development of the Community Enhanced Respiratory Assessment Service, the COPD virtual clinics and the Integrated Respiratory MDT, the Covid Virtual Ward and the community Home Oxygen Weaning Service. She is also a member of the Royal College of Physicians, the British Thoracic Society, the European Respiratory Society, the Brisith Sleep Society and the Healthcare Financial Managment Association. In addition to integrated respiratory care, she keeps a specialist interest in sleep disorders and home mechanical ventilation and also works as a sleep physician in the Leicester Sleep Service. Out of the busy work environment she is a keen photographer and illustrator, and also enjoys cooking (she is a firm advocate against the addition of chorizo to paella), and running. Only recently she has also started to learn bass guitar.
