John Hurst graduated from the University of Edinburgh Medical School and was appointed Senior Lecturer, then Reader in Respiratory Medicine at UCL in October 2007. He has a particular research interest in mechanisms of exacerbation susceptibility and cardiovascular risk in COPD. He was awarded the 2012 European Respiratory Society COPD Research prize. His clinical work at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust focuses on COPD and the Camden service works closely across primary, community and secondary care. He is on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and the European Respiratory Journal. In March 2018 he was appointed as the COPD Lead within the National Asthma and COPD Audit Programme,
