Brendan Cooper

photo of Brendan CooperBrendan Cooper is a Consultant Clinical Scientist & Hon. Professor in Respiratory Physiology at University Hospitals Birmingham. He has over 39 years’ experience in both clinical and research practice in the UK. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers on a broad range of respiratory physiology and is a world leader in the drive for Quality Diagnostic lung function and sleep study testing; member of several ATS/ERS Technical Standards lung function task forces and is currently Co-Chair of the Global lung Initiative for lung function reference values. He has also been ERS, Assembly 9 Head, and Co-Chair of the ERS European Spirometry Driving Licence Group. He is President of the Academy for Healthcare Science. He was awarded NHS England CSO Awards Healthcare Scientist of the Year in 2020.

Together with other colleagues he chaired the ARTP Covid Group which drew up the guidance for lung function testing during the pandemic.
