Asthma biologics toolkit

Asthma biologics can transform patient lives by reducing asthma attacks, asthma-related hospital admissions and long-term side-effects of other treatments such as oral steroids. The Accelerated Access Collaborative Asthma Biologics programme, led by the Oxford AHSN through the AHSN Network, focuses on optimising pathways that help with early identification of people with uncontrolled asthma, appropriate referral of patients needing further specialist input and supporting patients to self-administer their medicine at home. Asthma biologics is one of three current focus areas in the NHS Accelerated Access Collaborative (AAC) Rapid Uptake Products (RUP) programme.

Their toolkit has a section dedicated to support Primary care healthcare professional training.

This section focuses on primary care and understanding the landscape around severe asthma care. This includes issues around patient identification, management and referral for assessment of biologic suitability across the entire patient pathway.
