Barbara Preston

Barbara Preston

Barbara Preston had a varied career mainly in adult education, particularly with the Open University. Since retiring eleven years ago she has been considerably involved in voluntary work, mainly health related. In particular she has been secretary of Nottingham Breathe Easy for fourteen years and is secretary of her practice PPG. She represents retired people on her CCG’s Patient Cabinet and is variously involved with clinical trials as well as acting as a patient for medical students. Barbara is widowed, has two children and three granddaughters. Seven decades of bronchiectasis, and more recently osteoporosis, necessitate regular exercise but there’s time for family and friends as well as theatre, opera, cinema, singing and reading. Barbara is pleased to be on the PCRS Patient Reference Group as she is keen to promote a gold standard respiratory service throughout the UK and encourage HCPs to enable improved patient self-management. “My experience of life long respiratory disease has followed huge advances in care but my nearly two decades of working with a large Breathe Easy group has shown me that there’s great variation between the services patients receive. I want to help ensure that there is a universal gold standard. PCRS have a key role in working towards this and the Patients Reference Group’s involvement helps ensure that patients’ lived experience is taken into account.”
