Kate Gillett

Kate Gillett is a Clinical Academic and Respiratory Nurse Specialist with almost 20 years’ experience across primary and secondary respiratory care. She has extensive experience in clinical leadership, service transformation and developing innovative models of respiratory care, having led the development and delivery of innovative respiratory services within primary care, including specialist nurse-led pathways designed to improve access, diagnosis, and management for people with chronic respiratory conditions.
Kate is currently undertaking a Wellcome Trust funded NIHR PhD fellowship at the University of Southampton; her research is focused on optimising respiratory care in primary and community settings and the role of specialist respiratory nurses within future models of care. Alongside her academic work, she maintains a clinical role in primary care. Kate is actively involved in respiratory research, education and policy; her clinical academic work includes collaborations with NIHR ARC Wessex, NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre and the Centre for Applied Respiratory Research Innovation and Implementation (CARRii).
A previous winner of the ARNS Outstanding Contribution to Respiratory Patient Care Award, Kate is passionate about advancing respiratory nursing, strengthening specialist capability and translating research into better care for people living with respiratory disease.
