Jacqueline Pollington

Jacqui qualified as a registered general nurse in 1990 and has worked in respiratory care since then. With a first degree in Biosciences & Health and a Masters in Advanced Nursing Practice, she has enjoyed a varied career in clinical practice and service development in the specialities of Asthma, COPD, hospital at home exacerbation management, PR, home oxygen assessment and review, Bronchiectasis, Covid virtual ward, and tobacco dependence. She worked in MidYorks NHST until 2017, when she moved to Barnsley and set up the community respiratory service there, and has worked as clinical lead in BreathingSpace, Rotherham South Yorks from 2018 to 2026. As clinical lead she was responsible for a nurse led community service that provided a comprehensive respiratory diagnostics for airways disease, and long term management including exacerbation support.

In 2019 she took on the role of clinical lead for the South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw ICS QUIT programme and was instrumental in the development of the strategy and educational resources. This programme aims to embed the principles of recognising tobacco addiction as a long term condition in line with the NHS Long Term Plan and embed the rapid treatment of nicotine withdrawal in the plan of care of every patient who is admitted to hospital for any reason.

She co-authored the BTS standards of care for home oxygen, the BTS professional framework for respiratory nursing and the clinical statement on the medical management of tobacco dependence for hospital clinicians. She has chaired the BTS specialist advisory group on tobacco dependence.
