In this webinar inspiring speakers, Dr Andrew Appleton, Clinical Digital Lead & Chief Clinical Information Officer, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire CCG and Dr Shanti Vijayaraghavan, Consultant Physician, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Barts Health NHS Trust, Newham University Hospital, will consider what role remote consultations and care should play as part of a sustainable healthcare system using a ‘sustainable healthcare lens’ of clinical, environmental, social and economic impact.
At the heart of healthcare are relationships and work of healthcare is communication. This communication in caring has predominantly been carried out face-to-face though remote forms of communicating have a long-established place in making healthcare accessible and keeping everyone informed. The massive shift in practice this year towards remote communication and care as a result of the coronavirus pandemic has provoked fevered debate on the benefits, limitations and pitfalls of remote consulting and care.
The speakers will weigh up the impact of remote consultations and care using a sustainable healthcare lens, focussing not only on clinical outcomes but also impacts on the environment (on which we all depend for our health), social wellbeing (of staff, patients and the community) and cost.
Following interviews with expert speakers and Q&A, participants will have the opportunity to join small group discussions in breakout rooms to discuss the place of remote consultations in their own settings.
