PCRS held a webinar on Implementing AIR and MART in children (6+), young people and adults. With new licenses coming in quickly for AIR and MART inhaler treatments, it is important to implement them effectively, in the appropriate age grounds.

In this webinar, Chair Katherine Hickman (PCRS Executive Chair) and guest speakers Deborah Leese and Lisa Cummings focus on:

What AIR and MART are,
The role they play in the new BTS/NICE/SIGN asthma guidance,
The licenses currently available for AIR and MART therapies and in what age groups, and
Implementing AIR and MART treatment regimens in adults, young people and children (6+).

Speakers

Katherine Hickman

Katherine qualified from Leeds University in 2000. She originally did a Medicine Rotation acquiring her MRCP before settling into General Practice. She is a GP Partner in Bradford. Katherine is the Respiratory Lead for West Yorkshire ICB, Primary Care Clinical Lead for the National Respiratory Audit Programme (NRAP), and Chair of PCRS. Outside of work she enjoys cooking, baking, yoga, and outdoor swimming and has recently rediscovered her love for singing and joined a choir.
Deborah Leese

Deborah qualified as a pharmacist in 2000 with a first-class degree. She has had a varied career starting in community pharmacy, moving on to regional and national training roles and then into primary care in 2009 as a clinical pharmacist for NHS Sheffield.
In 2016 Deborah qualified as a pharmacist independent prescriber and was appointed respiratory lead pharmacist for Sheffield CCG and now for South Yorkshire ICB (Sheffield) Deborah has led on many pieces of respiratory work including guideline and formulary development. She has also developed many initiatives for inhaler optimisation for the city as well as educational sessions. Deborah is also currently Co-Clinical Lead for Children and Young Peoples Asthma for South Yorkshire, Clinical Lead for SABA reduction in South Yorkshire, Chair of the South Yorkshire Sustainable Respiratory Group and a committee member for the South Yorkshire Respiratory Interest Group.
Deborah is Vice Chair of the PCRS Service Development Committee, a member of the Policy Forum and is a core member of the Asthma Right Care team. She has contributed to various PCRS documents including Asthma Guidelines in Practice – A PCRS consensus. She has a passion for respiratory care and is focussed at putting the patient at the centre of care.
Lisa Cummings

Lisa Cummings is an Registered Nurse (Adult), Queens Nurse, Independent Nurse Prescriber and has completed the General Practice Specialist Practitioner Qualification. She is currently completing an MSc in Primary Care Health.
Lisa is employed by Black Country Integrated Care Board on an NHS England pilot as Senior Specialist Paediatric Children & Young People’s Asthma Practitioner. In this role the team provide education and support to Primary Care colleagues on early and accurate diagnosis, the delivery of essential asthma care and risk stratification across the Black Country.
With a background in Primary Care working as a Practice Nurse within Wolverhampton she has been involved in the development of new services to improve accessible services for our patients including Post Attack Reviews, PCN Respiratory Diagnostic Hubs and PCN Contraception services. Prior to this she worked within community Substance Misuse services, working with difficult to engage groups in both a voluntary and criminal justice setting.
