A simple guide to the management of asthma in children
At the time the guideline launched there were no inhalers licensed for maintenance and reliever therapy (MART) in children. This has since changed and this guide provides information and advice on introducing children of 5-11 years of age to a MART regimen.
With the new maintenance and reliever therapy (MART) license for children, this simple guide provides information and guidance on introducing children of 5-11 years of age safely and effectively to a MART regimen. It covers:
- Eligibility (who, when, why)
- Knowledge and training of healthcare professionals
- Current treatment options*
- Considerations for when a MART regimen is introduced (personalised asthma action plans, education and explanation, working with the child and their family, reviews and assessment to ensure continued optimisation)
- If MART is not suitable
- Health inequalities and greener respiratory healthcare
*Symbicort Turbohaler 100/6 is currently the only licensed medication inhaler for MART in children and young people between 6 and 11 years of age.
